get to know studio fos.

  • how do you know each other?

Jessica . I’d been working in another interior design studio for a few years, when Harriet joined the company. Fast forward almost 7 years worth of projects + we still don’t hate each other!

Harriet . After a stint in another studio elsewhere, I joined the design company Jessica was working in. We both worked our way up within the company at a similar rate + have worked with each other long enough to know what the other’s opinion is without even having to say it!

  • why did you decide to start studio fos?

Harriet + Jessica . After getting to the level of being confident in designing large-scale properties on a regular basis, it felt like we’d outgrown the nest + had the longing to mould our own future in design. We’re so excited to use our passion to help others make their houses a home.

  • how did you learn your craft?

Harriet . After graduating from Bath School of Art with a degree in Textile Design, I spent near on 10 years styling and designing interiors within the UK’s leading design studios.

Jessica . Similar to Harriet, but graduating with a degree in Interior Design + having spent a period in high-end stone consultancy, I transitioned into interior design + styling within one of the UK’s leading studios.

  • what is your favourite fabric house?

Jessica . The top 3 that spring to mind are Mark Alexander, Nobilis + Fermoire, however if I had to choose only one…Mark Alexander is top of my list. I feel his designs work in all types of scheme + are effortlessly timeless.

Harriet . I’d have to agree with Jessica on this one…I met Mark Alexander a couple of years ago in Paris, wayyy before covid scuppered international trade shows + he was the most down to earth guy…to be honest, much like his designs. Although I do also have a soft spot for Barbara Osorio.

  • is wallpaper still on trend?

Harriet . In general, I prefer to add in other features with paint, cladding + artwork etc. However in certain areas, like children’s bedrooms, wallpaper can really make the room.

Jessica . Whilst a bold feature wallpaper isn’t something I would have in my home, we have specified many beautiful wallpapers including bespoke, hand-painted papers…although this crosses the line into art! However, subtle textured wallpapers (think linen + sisal) also work beautifully when used in the right way.

  • what is the most problematic situation you have come across?

Jessica . One of my larger projects ended up being due to install right when Covid was at its peak. You can only imagine the chaos that lockdown caused, but it was such a relief to see the project finally install + the client super happy.

Harriet . The perfect storm of both brexit + covid - any fabric and furniture importers worst nightmare…lets just say, we had to do a lot of re-specification of items to meet the installation dates.
